The Therm-App provides a thermal imager with a resolution of 384x288 pixels. The lightweight and compact device fits different phone models.
The interchangeable lens system offers easy detection of faraway targets through its long range (19mm) lens and a wide view through the 6.8 mm lens. The temperature range covered by the thermal camera for Android devices may look limited as the operating range is between 5 to 90 degree Celsius, however based on the use one can swap lenses in case a longer or shorter detection range is needed.

Thermal Camera - A brief overview

A thermal camera can be used to create images formed with the help of infrared radiation. This type of camera is extremely helpful to improve visibility in the absence of any light. Also known as FLIR or, Forward Looking InfraRed the wavelength at which the thermal camera works is usually 14000 nm.
There are various applications which make use of thermal cameras like border security, industrial security, perimeter security, coastal surveillance, airport security, building inspection and many more. The thermal energy is converted into visible images which are then represented in the form of thermographs.
There are usually two types of thermal cameras like un-cooled ones and the cryogenically cooled ones. The uncooled ones have in-built batteries, operate at room temperature with infrared detector elements, makes no noise and activates immediately. The second one is very costly and can be damaged due to rough use. Thermal camera would depict normal temperatures in gray scale and high temperatures in colour.

Infrared detection technology has seen a lot of development in recent years. Development in cooled mercury cadmium telluride MCT or, HgCdTe has helped Infrared cameras to be used in a wide variety of demanding applications. The infrared camera is now available with spectral sensitivity in the various bands like shortwave, mid-wave and long-wave.
There are different camera resolutions available as a result of mid-size and large-size detector arrays. Other important features which have improved for infrared cameras includes high frame rate, adjustable exposure time and event triggering. Sophisticated processing algorithms offer an expanded range for the infrared camera which helps in avoiding saturation and optimizes sensitivity.
Single band MCT detectors fall in one of the five spectral bands like Short wave infrared camera (SWIR) which are visible to 2.5 micron, Broad band infrared camera (BWIR) which are visible between 1.5 - 5 micron, Mid-wave infrared camera (MWIR) visible between 3-5 micron, Long-wave infrared camera (LWIR) visible between 7-10 microns, and Very Long-wave infrared camera (VLWIR) visible between 7-12 microns.
