The COLOSUS line of electro-optical test systems from Santa Barbara Infrared Inc. and Labsphere Inc. include collimated optics, software and uniform sources for the optical characterization of sensors and cameras. The devices are offered in both collimated and flood-mode test configurations. Integrating spheres, blackbodies, collimators, target wheels, system peripherals and traceable calibration data are combined and controlled by the IRWindows™5 automated test software package to provide a single, easy-to-use testing method for each of the new systems in the product series. Custom test solutions can be designed to achieve specific program requirements.

Santa Barbara Infrared’s 14000Zi Series reflective infrared target projectors are turnkey test systems for electro-optical (E-O) testing of FLIRs and other infrared (IR) imaging systems. The standard target projectors are assembled from SBIR’s STC Series Collimators, Infinity Blackbodies and 300 Series Target Wheels. SBIR also offers a standard athermal target projector with a 5.7° field of view (FOV). With the addition of IRWindows™5 automated test software, SBIR’s infrared and visible target projectors become fully integrated closed-loop automated hardware/software solutions.

The Infinity VSX Series Integrating Sphere systems are ultra uniform, highly accurate broadband light sources. Testing and calibration of CCD cameras, radiometers, photometers, and remote sensing systems are performed easily and accurately with this compact, rugged system SBIR specializes in providing hardware and software solutions that reduce test times and cost, while improving the consistency and accuracy of test results.

The STC Series Off-axis Newtonian Collimators from Santa Barbara Infrared provide superior performance in a compact, light weight, readily integrated package. These collimators accurately project targets at infinite focus for critical visible, IR, SWIR, MWIR and LWIR system testing. The lightweight, rugged construction of these systems make them ideal for laboratory, production and depot applications. STC Series Collimators integrate with SBIR’s Infinity Blackbodies and 300 Series target wheels to create the 14000 Series Target Projectors. These target projectors are available in many standard sizes to satisfy the test requirements of most sensor systems. Additionally, their modular design allows for easy customization of components. SBIR also offers custom and built to specification collimators including large aperture, long focal length optical bench configurations, refractive collimators, portable athermal field/depot configurations and wide field of view systems.

Santa Barbara Infrared’s 2nd generation Nightingale Body Temperature Reference (BTR) sources provide the same stable, uniform, low cost and simple to operate thermal sources for human body temperature detection. In addition, the 2nd generation systems comes standard with power over ethernet (PoE+) and Bluetooth®, removing the need for a separate power source or a USB connection. Nightingale sources are primarily designed to be incorporated into COVID-19 related thermal imaging body temperature screening systems. The Nightingale Body Temperature References work by providing a viewable thermal reference area for infrared (thermal) camera systems to aid in fever detection. The Nightingale BTR source features “set and forget” configuration. An operator simply configures the reference source through either the USB, ethernet or Bluetooth® interface options and stores the set point into non-volatile memory. After configuration, the blackbody automatically controls to the set point upon each power up. A status LED visually indicates when the reference is stable and ready for use as a calibration source. The Nightingale’s performance has been optimized for a range of absolute temperature set points and ambient conditions that are required by most body temperature screening systems. The Nightingale BTR sources are IEC 80601-2-59 compliant.
